George H. & Laura E. Brown Library - Proposed Renovations & Additions

Washington, NC

RBSA worked with Dr. Robert Burgin and the Library Staff on evaluation of the existing facility. Dr. Burgin and RBSA developed a Space Needs Assessment that considered the 20-year space needs, the option of expanding the existing facility or building a new facility and the associated costs of each option. Washington ultimately chose to investigate renovating and expanding the existing two-story facility. Using the needs assessment, RBSA created a Schematic Floor Plan for renovating and expanding the facility that utilized the advantages of the two-story smaller footprint while managing the challenges of staffing. More remote areas of the existing facility were dedicated to Staff and Storage while opening up the New Addition with a spiral staircase that visually connects the Main Floor to the Second Floor. RBSA also created 3d images of the proposed expansion designs.
