Ashe County Public Library - Renovation & Addition
West Jefferson, NC
Programming and Design on this project began in 2001 with interior renovations that included converting an abandoned Book Mobile Garage into much needed staff space, a new Circulation Desk, carpet and fresh paint. With population growth in this area on the rise, plans for a major expansion began in 2005. Expansion plans included demolishing the one-story center section of the existing library to make room for a new two-story main entrance. This stone clad entrance boasts exposed heavy timber trusses, clerestory windows and a clear view up to the balcony of the Upper-Level new addition space. The two-story rear addition houses a large Children’s Department on the Main Level and Reference, Computer Training Room and enclosed Heritage Room on the Upper Level.
